Our Approach to Therapy.
We do not solely focus on one therapeutic modality at Lotus, as no single approach fits everyone. Instead, we practice many different forms of treatment which could all fit under the umbrella of trauma therapy. One does not have to be a veteran of war or be the victim of physical or sexual violence to sustain trauma. Trauma is defined as any event that overwhelms the body at the time of the occurrence and can stem from a wide range of life experiences including what we didn’t receive along the way. Clients often do not realize that not experiencing some of the good things in life such as attention, love, nurturance, compassion, and physical touch is often just as traumatizing to the system as the bad things we did go through.
Human beings are extremely resilient, so often times we bury into our subconscious not only the painful experiences themselves but also the internal protective behaviors we naturally developed to defend against future traumatic experiences. Your initial sessions at Lotus will explore your life narrative and the reasons you are seeking therapy. We then will collaboratively decide what treatment options may be the best fit for you. Lotus Therapy goes well beyond traditional “talk therapy,” incorporating additional modalities that supplement psychotherapy. If you would like to broaden your understanding of the treatment options available, it may be helpful to understand how trauma impacts the brain, mind, and body.
